Several media outlets, including The Lansing State Journal and WLNS.com, are reporting an admitted disposal of evidence by the Ingham County Sheriff's Office. Sheriff Gene Wrigglesworth faced reporters to inform them that several items in the department's evidence room was destroyed and disposed of after being contaminated with bio-hazards following a sewage leak. Wrigglesworth did not specify an amount of items, but said it could range from dozens to hundreds of evidence pieces.

It's reported that marijuana is among the items confirmed. Other items include money, guns, drivers licenses, and drugs. Reports state at least one case involving drugs has been dismissed as a result.

The sheriff's office has notified the Ingham County Prosecutor's Office. They are currently reviewing the other affected cases.
