The celebration of our independence is upon us. Here in Michigan it is likely to be the best weather we have seen in quite some time, maybe ever. Temperatures will rise to the mid 70’s, wind will be light, and the sky will be clear for those incredible forces of pyrotechnics. While enjoying the holiday weekend, be safe, have fun, and don’t forget what happened on that great day July 4, 1776. We became the United States of America. The Declaration of Independence was made public and its words became timeless;

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."

The document penned by a 27 year old Thomas Jefferson ignited a war with the British that a decade later ended with the Birth of a Nation. Our nation, the greatest nation in the history of nations, the United States of America!

It also resulted in the birth of the United States Constitution and an experiment in government. Our republic has been tested and torn to it’s foundation but it has held up to the test of time. We may now face another time of upheaval and discourse as our nation changes again. We, as citizens of this representative republic need to remain mindful of the principles that have made this nation possible and yes, great!
