High Demand For Ketchup Packets Leads To Heinz Ketchup Shortage

Someone call my ex boyfriend and let him know there's a ketchup shortage and he needs to stock up. This dude put ketchup on everything. When I say everything, I mean it, he even put it on my mothers prime rib on Christmas Eve. I'd call him with the news but he has me blocked. It's a long story for another day.

This story isn't about me and my ex, it's about a ketchup shortage in the U.S.

Due to the pandemic, the Centers for Disease Control suggested that restaurants refrain from using bottles of ketchup and switch to packets in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

According to Newsweek and WLNS, Heinz has been having a hard time keeping up with ketchup demands and plans on opening new manufacturing to increase production.

To catch up with the ketchup shortage, Heinz plans to open new manufacturing lines, beginning with two in April, with the aim of increasing production by 25 percent and bringing the total of ketchup packets produced per year to 12 billion.

Is this why every other day Heinz is rolling out some new mash-up? Are they trying to distract ketchup lovers with something new and exciting? Maybe.

Do you all really love ketchup that much that we're seriously in the middle of a shortage? Don't get me wrong, I like ketchup, but it's never a go to. If I have fries, those baby's are getting dipped in a fat cup of ranch.
