Imagine that, getting fined for recycling in your own backyard. That is exactly what happened to a Grand Rapids man, who was fined $975 back in May. He was given until August 27th as his deadline to stop the operations he was doing on his property and clean it up.

This isn't something new, though. Bill Peterson, the man who got charged with this fine, has been fighting with Grand Rapids for nearly 16 years about this.

Why is this such a big deal? The city is saying that Peterson is violating some zoning rules by operating a trash sorting and recycling business in a residential area.

What are Peterson's thoughts towards the city stopping his recycling, because he has obviously been doing this for a while now. He told the Grand Rapids Press the city should support his recycling ways.

You can read more about the story in the Detroit Free Press.
