Well, if there's anyplace that new tire technology should be put to the test, it's on Michigan's roads.

General Motors and Michelin are working on a new tire concept that is said to be airless and punctureless. The prototype is called 'Uptis' and is said to use fewer raw materials to produce. Uptis stands for Unique Puncture-proof Tire System, according to the Detroit Free Press.

It's also supposed to last longer than traditional tires.

The concept tire looks much like a tire, but without sidewalls. I have to admit, it looks pretty darn cool.

GM will begin testing the tires on public roads later this year. If all goes well, they could be available as soon as 2024.

But will it stand up to Michigan roads? How will it do in the winter on snow and ice?
