Get Your “Built in Lansing” Camaro – They Might Be Going Away

Could this be THE END for the Chevy Camaro? According to the Muscle Cars and Trucks website, who quote anonymous sources inside GM, the Lansing built Chevy Camaro is going away. (Hmm, if only somebody in town might know something about this. Seriously, what do you know?)

Apparently the plan is to discontinue the Camaro in 2023. The platform they and the Cadillac ATS and CTS are built on is getting updated. The new platform will be the basis for the Cadillac CT4 and CT5, but the Camaro won't be transitioning.

I love Camaros. I've had three of them. The first new car I bought for myself was a '79 Camaro. It was pretty basic. The only option I really wanted was the rear spoiler. My dad tried to talk me out of it, but I was having none of that. After a few years, I was living in Pittsburgh and making enough money so that I could afford a black '83 Z-28. And the last one I owned was a blue '87 Z-28. The first Z was stolen and used as a getaway car by some low-life purse snatchers. The cops found it in one piece and I got it back. The second Z, I sold to a guy who showed up at my house with $7,000 in cash. Not surprisingly, that Z (I found out later) also went on to a career as a getaway car. In Pittsburgh I was friends with Don Yenko, the Chevy car dealer (and race car driver) who came up with the factory option packages that turned out to be "Yenko Camaros" in the late 60's and what I consider to be the ultimate Camaros.

I will be sad if this story is true. Might have to save up for one last Camaro.
