Extended Deadlines for Income Tax Returns

According to the Lansing State Journal, if you haven't gotten around to filing your income tax return, you have some more time.

Because of the coronavirus outbreak, the state of Michigan and cities including Lansing and East Lansing have joined the federal government in extending income tax deadlines by three months.

Lansing Mayor Andy Schor announced last week that Lansing's deadline for filing income tax returns had been extended from April 30 to July 31.

Lansing City Hall is closed to the public and to non-essential employees. In the meantime, you can pay your taxes early using several remote options.

Michigan's income tax deadline has been moved from April 15 to July 15, after Governor Gretchen Whitmer issued an executive order on March 27 extending all city and state income tax deadlines until July.

The deadline for federal income tax returns has likewise been pushed to July 15. Numbers from the federal income tax return, such as adjusted gross income, are necessary to file a state income tax return.
