“BookWorks” –- a new exhibit celebrating books as art -- is now on display at The Peoples Church of East Lansing. The display includes 7 amazing pieces from the collection of book artist Eric Alstrom and presents the book form in a very unique and powerful way.
The exhibit, which will be on display through October 15, 2019, is open to the public and free of charge. Hours for viewing are Monday through Friday, 12:00 Noon through 4:00 PM, and Sunday 8:00 AM to 12:00 Noon. Visitors may enter from the church parking lot; the exhibit is housed in a display case in the East Hall of the church, adjacent to the Sanctuary.
Eric's artwork is focused on the medium of the book, which presents a 3-Dimensional canvas upon which to render his designs. He creates both “fine bindings,” where an interpretive cover is placed on an already-printed book, as well as “artists books,” where he creates the whole book —from designing the pages to the binding itself.
