EMU Basketball Star Killed in Head-On Collision
Early Sunday morning, around 1 a.m. an Eastern Michigan University basketball star and another student were involved in a head-on collision.
According to the Washtenaw County sheriff's office the accident happened in Ypsilanti Township. Shannise Heady, a 21 year-old junior was a forward for the Eagles. She was driving the vehicle when it veered over the center line and hit an oncoming vehicle.
Heady and her passenger, Jordan Hopkins a 23 year-old senior were both killed. The driver of the vehicle that was hit was treated at an area hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
Eastern Michigan is offering counseling for students who would like it. University President Susan Martin said this is a "tragic loss."
Heady had transferred from Seton Hall University to Eastern Michigan in 2013.
