Haunted Places in Michigan
Do you enjoy being scared? Do you have a weekend to spend at a hotel in Clare, Michigan? Because if you do, allow me to introduce you to one of the most haunted hotels in the U.S., and potentially, the most haunted hotel in the state of Michigan;
To help celebrate the spooky season, Thrillist recently put together a list of the "Most Haunted Hotels You Can Visit in Every State", and for Michigan, The Doherty Hotel came out on top for the most haunted in the state.
The Most Haunted Hotel in Michigan
When The Doherty Hotel opened in the 1920s, it "became a hotbed of activity as a speakeasy, underground gambling parlor, and gangster hangout." And it's partly due to that kind of gangster activity that the hotel is believed to be haunted.
Isaiah Leebove was a member of the infamous Detroit bootleggers, the Purple Gang. It's said that Leebove's spirit haunts the hotel. Another ghost that supposedly haunts the hotel is "former family matriarch Helen Doherty". Ghost hunters have visited the hotel in the past and have apparently recorded Doherty's voice.
If you're up for what could be a spooky night, perhaps make the drive to mid-Michigan and spend an evening at The Doherty Hotel. Take a look through the videos below to see what you might be in for.
