Dimondale's Summit Sports and Ice Complex Shutting Down

It's hard to believe that after 22 years of business, Summit Sports and Ice Complex will be closing their doors permanently.

It's all because of the COVID-19 pandemic and just not enough business to keep Summit Sports and Ice Complex up and running.

This has always been a fantastic location in Dimondale to host all kinds of sports tournaments, athletic leagues, trade shows, as well as public skating.

I can't tell you how many times I've been at the Summit Sports and Ice Complex broadcasting live for just about anything and everything sports related.

Even on several occasions I would take my family to the Summit and spend hours ice skating or just spend time watching local hockey teams practicing or just playing games.

According to the Lansing State Journal, the decision to discontinue operations permanently is the direct result of being shut down by the State of Michigan for much of the last 11 months due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Paige Sauer, who is the general manager said, the inability to have athletes and teams use our facilities for such an extended period of time made it impossible for us to continue financially. (LSJ)

This 176,000 square foot sports complex opened on Davis Highway in Dimondale 22 years ago. Before the Covid-19 pandemic, the Summit attracted more than one million patrons per year.

What was the Summit Sports and Ice Complex in Dimondale all about? It was about enjoyment, athletic growth and personal achievement.

Nothing will ever take the place of this huge sports complex!
