Must admit this is not my favorite time of year when daylight savings time ends and the colder weather approaches. Spring ahead, fall back as they say.

On the other hand, I love when we flick those clocks ahead in the spring and it's still light after 9 pm in our great state of Michigan, which will happen again on March Sunday, March 13th, 2022.

So here is the scoop, daylight saving time begins on the second Sunday in March, and ends on the first Sunday in November.

When We Turn Clocks Back

This year, the first Sunday in November falls on Nov. 7, giving Michigan residents an extra hour of sleep.

The question of whether to permanently spring clocks forward or to permanently roll them back has been an ongoing thing ever since Congress brought us daylight saving time in the 1960s.

Sometimes I get in a bit of a funk this time of year, but it does not last very long because I exercise more, get a lot of rest, and use a sunlamp on occasion or tan in the winter months.

Some Folks Do Get The Winter Blues

Some folks do get a mild version of SAD known as the “winter blues.” says clevelandclinic.org. It's ok though to feel a little down during colder months. After all, we are in the house more and it gets dark so early.

But full SAD goes beyond that — it’s a form of depression. Unlike the winter blues, SAD affects your daily life, including how you feel and think. Fortunately, treatment can help you get through this challenging time.

Ask your doctor if it is something you are going through. I think is important to spend more time with family and friends this time of year. Keep smiling kids and let's get ready for a great holiday season.
