Buckling up is one of the most important things you can do to help save lives when it comes to your own safety and the safety of others.

Click it or Ticket is a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration campaign aimed at increasing the use of seat belts among young people in the United States.

Here locally and beginning today, the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning is launching a Click it or Ticket seat belt enforcement to remind everyone about the importance of buckling up.

According to WILX, three out of four people ejected from a vehicle in a crash will die. Wearing a seat belt is the simplest thing you can do to reduce injuries and save lives. It's the easiest decision you will ever make.

I think this is a great idea, it not only promotes the wearing of seat belts, it promotes one of the biggest pushes when it comes to saving lives.

According to the State of Michigan, seat belts have saved 344,448 lives since 1975. An additional 381,787 lives could have been saved if everyone had been wearing a seat belt since. (WILX)

The State encourages drivers and passengers to follow several guidelines when you buckle up:

1. The lap belt and shoulder belt are secured across the hips and shoulder.

2. Place the shoulder belt across the middle of your chest and away from your neck.

3. The lap belt rests across your hips, not your stomach.

4. Never put  the shoulder belt behind your back or under an arm.
