In a press release today, the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) announced a partnership between the State of Michigan and China’s Jiangsu Province. The announcement comes during a visiting delegation from Jiangsu to Lansing in which the parties agreed to a “shared commitment to foster mutual understanding and opportunities.” The partnership will foster the exchange of ideas on agricultural and land management between the two territories.

MDARD Director Clover Adams and Governor Snyder visited China in 2013 where Ms. Adams was first introduced to officials from Jiangsu Province. Snyder has visited China since in an attempt to draw economic partnerships and increase trade between China and Michigan and increased visits signal that he has been successful.

Adams and Deputy Commissioner Xia Qianbao of the Ocean & Fisheries Bureau of Jiangsu Province signed today a Memorandum of Understanding to establish a cooperative effort to advance fisheries and agriculture practices. The delegation spent the day visiting Michigan State University, the MI Department of Natural Resources, the Department of Environmental Quality, and the Michigan Economic Development Corporation.
