Two Michigan communities, Hazel Park and Oak Park have passed ballot proposals that would legalize or decriminalize small amounts of marijuana for personal use.

In 2013 proposals were approved in three Michigan cities to discourage police from arresting individuals over 21 years old, who were on private property with less than an ounce of marijuana.

Lansing, Jackson and Ferndale residents still can face charges because possession, unless it's for medical purposes, is still illegal in the state.
