Michael Patrick was producer for the legendary Detroit radio host, J.P. McCarthy, and also worked with Dick Purtan, who, like McCarthy, is in the Radio Hall of Fame. The Michigan Association of Broadcasters has named Shiels “Network Radio Personality of the Year” on multiple occasions, most recently in 2017. He has authored ten books and Shiels’ travel articles have appeared in publications including The Los Angeles Times, Cigar Aficionado, Travel & Leisure, Bermuda Royal Gazette, Honolulu Star-Bulletin, Automotive News, Traverse Magazine, Traverse City Record-Eagle, Booth Newspapers, The Detroit News, Detroit Free Press, Heritage Newspapers, Sports Illustrated, Golf Magazine, and The Lansing State Journal
