850,000 cars and SUV's made by Ford are being recalled due to a problem that could stop the air bags from working during a crash.

The models that have been recalled are 2013-14 Ford C-Max compact, Lincoln MKZ luxury car, Fusion midsize, and Escape SUV.

The manufacturer believes the restraints control module could possibly short circuit, which would in turn cause the air bag indicator to light up. If this happens pretensioners, side curtains and the air bags may not work in a crash.

The short circuit could also affect other systems in the vehicles.

So far Ford is unaware of any injuries or accidents caused by the short circuit problem.  If you own one of these vehicles take it to a dealership.

The dealership will replace the restraints control module for free.
