The long Memorial Day holiday weekend proved fatal after a two vehicle head-on collision on Monday afternoon. .

MLive.com is reporting that the crash occured around 2:30 on Coats Grove Road in Barry County.

Sheriff's Department officials say the driver of a 2011 Chevrolet Impala was heading east when it collided with driver of a 2005 Ford Taurus.

The head-on crash killed both drivers.  Both were traveling alone.

There is no word yet on what may have caused the accident, whether alcohol or speed were involved, or the names of the victims.

Sheriff's officials are asking anyone who may have seen the crash and could shed some light on the cause are being asked to contact their office.

The official holiday travel period began at six o'clock last Thursday night and ended at midnight last night.  Beefed up enforcements, especially those looking to find seat belt violators, were held in several counties in Michigan.

There is no word yet on whether these victims were wearing seat belts.
