3 Easy Things Michiganders Can Do To Help Our Beautiful State On Earth Day

Earth Day is Coming up this Saturday, April 22nd. And when you live in a state as beautiful as Michigan, it's easy to see why protecting our planet and our green spaces for future generations is so important.

But when it comes to helping the planet, you may find yourself feeling a little helpless. You're busy, your budget is tight, or maybe you don't know what to do. Thankfully it's easier than you'd expect.

Helen Taylor, state director of The Nature Conservancy in Michigan has some helpful advice to get you started.

There are simple things people can do every day to reduce their carbon footprint, from using reusable grocery bags and water bottles to composting and recycling. From extreme weather events to reduced ice cover on the Great Lakes, climate change is having an impact here in Michigan. But, if we all work together, we can head off this crisis before it gets worse and ensure future generations can enjoy everything Michigan has to offer.

The experts at the Nature Conservancy in Michigan are encouraging Michiganders to do their part this Earth Day (and every day) to help slow down and stop the effects of climate change in Michigan, by doing these simple things.

Three things you can do to help Michigan on Earth Day

• Volunteer at places like Ives Road Fen. You can help them remove invasive species from a habitat that is critical to all sorts of plants, animals, amphibians and more.
• Plant a native garden that supports insects like the endangered monarch butterfly and pollinators. (Plus, your yard will look and smell great!)
• Urge your elected representatives to support conservation programs like the Recovering America’s Wildlife Act that will provide funding to states, territories and Tribes to help them put conservation measures in place.
