$11 Million Allen Neighborhood Center Facility Under Construction

I love to hear about new construction taking place when it comes to something new being built for the greater good of Lansing.

According to the Lansing State Journal, construction on a new $11 million Allen Neighborhood Center facility is now underway at the site on Kalamazoo Street.

The new Allen Place Project should be completed by 2021. This will be a three story, 10,000 square foot building.

Joan Nelson, who is the executive director of the Allen Neighborhood Center said, "It's a milestone. It is very exciting. We've been planning and fundraising for two years and now it's happening." (LSJ)

The new facility will house Allen Neighborhood Center programs such as the farmers market and incubator kitchen and have space for new programs such as the accelerator kitchen.

The Allen Neighborhood Center facility will also include 21 mixed income housing units, a health clinic and a food co-op.

The Allen Place Project in partnership with the Lansing Board of water and Light, will also have a solar micro grid including solar roof panels, carports and picnic tables.

Financing for the project came from a variety of sources including a $1 million loan to purchase the site from an unnamed benefactor, a $3.4 million loan from PNC Bank and other support from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation's community revitalization program and the Michigan Department of environment, Great Lakes, and Energy.
