These 10 Michigan counties have property taxes averaging less than $1,000 per year.

Even though we hate paying taxes, they are something we just can't avoid. However, you can search for areas to live where you won't have to pay as much. Of the 83 counties in Michigan, ten of them have an average property tax below $1,000 per year.

On average throughout the state, Michigan residents pay roughly $2,145 each year in property taxes. That number is based on a home worth right around $132,200. For the most part, you are going to pay about 1.62% of your home's market value in taxes.

Out of all 50 states, Michigan is ranked number 18 when it comes to the average amount collected. Depending on where you live, you might end up paying more than others. Living in Washtenaw County is going to cost you as it has the highest property tax in Michigan with residents paying an average of roughly $3,900 each year. Oakland County comes in at number two with roughly $3,573 per year and Macomb County ranks third paying around $2,739 each year.

On the flip side of things, there are ten counties in Michigan that will cost you substantially less in property taxes each year. Most of these counties are in the northern part of the state and in the Upper Peninsula. See those ten counties below.

As a prepare to buy my first home soon, I can safely say that I have already crossed Washtenaw County off the list for a number of reasons, mainly because I just don't want to live there.
