At least 17 wolves have been killed in the state’s first kill in decades.  The numbers released as of Sunday morning, show the majority of the wolves were taken in the central portion of the UP.  The kill was authorized by the State to trim the population by 43.  It came after complaints of livestock and even pets falling victim.  The hunting season, for the 12-hundred who have permits, will continue until the end of the year or until the number of 43 is reached.  Those from the DNR say to make sure there is some impact from the kill, that number really needs to be taken.  They have released no contingency plans, though, if that target is not met.  12-02013 jp
