Throughout much of the state travel has been hazardous and that's why the "Michigan State Police Emergency Management and Homeland Security Division" says we have to be ready in the event something unexpected happens. Safe winter travel tips include: always checking the weather before we leave on a trip and rescheduling if necessary. Checking tire pressure, windshield wiper solvent and wiper blades. Officials suggest having an emergency preparedness kit in our vehicles at all times. They say these should include things like a hand-crank flashlight and radio, a cell phone charger, windshield scraper, blankets, first aid kit, bottled water and non-perishable foods, along with help signs, shovels, jumper

cables and tow straps.
