Winter Storm Warning Extended Into Lansing and Ingham County

The National Weather Service extended a Winter Storm Warning further south for Ingham and Eaton Counties Friday afternoon. The Winter Storm Warning goes into effect at 12:00 PM Saturday through 12:00 PM Sunday.

While reports of a windy, wintry mess have been in the forecast for a couple of days now, initially, counties north of I-96 and I-69 were included in the initial Winter Storm Warning issued Friday morning.

Saturday and Sunday, rain showers are expected to freeze on impact with roadways as temperatures fall to the freezing mark or lower. Winds will be blustery as well. Combine the gusty winds with the freezing rain potential, the possibility of downed power lines and power outages has increased. Road conditions will worsen the farther north you travel beginning Saturday morning.

Forecasts expect southern Michigan to remain warm enough to keep precipitation in the form of rain during the daytime hours Saturday and Sunday. The northern Lower and southern Upper peninsulas will see a major snow event when a foot of snow is expected to fall through Saturday and Sunday.

On Monday, the storm system is expected to stay hovering over all of the state with colder temperatures. The entire state is expected to see some snowfall Monday.
