While the Detroit Red Wings are making plans to build a new arena elsewhere there was the question: what would become of their current home? The Wings have been playing in the Joe Louis Arena in downtown Detroit since 1979.

Today the Board of the Michigan Strategic Fund cleared the way for the city of Detroit to get $6 million to tear it down. That's about what the experts figure it will cost. If more is needed it could be made available.

Once the arena is demolished long range plans include redeveloping the area.
