Weight loss is something most of us look to achieve.  Finding a program or regimine that works for us.  Not having to spend too much time on the treadmill or giving up the foods we really love....

But it looks like there are some things that we can give up to lose that belly we dream of getting of getting rid of.  And some of the items may surprise you.

Number one according to the American Journal of Public health is diet soda.  Fewer calories per serving means many are just having more soda.

Eating too often is the next culprit.  Avoid foods that are breaded, friend, crusted, smothered or creamed.  Opt instead for foods prepared by grilling or broiling.

Quit being lazy.  Weekends are time off work but not time off from watching your weight.  Weight has been tied to sleeping in.  Those who wake up at noon tend to eat more, according to the article, than those who have their first meal bright and early in the morning.

Fighting stress with sugar!  Hard not to but it's a battle that will lead to more weight.   A study from Harvard Medical School suggests that stress increases cortisol levels in the body and leads to cravings for sugary and fatty foods.  Instead, opt for more healthy choices to fill that void....and try to reduce the stress!

High-intensity interval training (HIIT) is said to burn more fat--especially abdominal fat--than steady-state cardio routines.  Combining cardio and strength training --switching between upper and lower body exercises--is the best way to feel good and build muscle.

And finally....quit smoking.  Studies have shown that smokers are bigger around the waist due to more abdominal fat and less muscle mass....two of the effects of smoking.
