It was a week ago today and there were some problems at a BP refinery in Indiana. Anywhere between about 600 and 1,600 gallons of oil ended up in Lake Michigan. Apparently a crude oil distillation unit was not working the way it should have and that's what led to the problem. At one point the oil spread about a half mile along the shoreline. Vacuum trucks and skimmers were used to get the oil contained.

According to the Coast Guard the most recent thorough search of the waterway is now complete and no additional oil has been found.
