U of M Cancels American Sniper Movie

Apparently the University of Michigan is not a place where tolerance is allowed and intolerance is accommodated.

According to U of M’s paper. The Michigan Daily. U of M cancelled the showing of the movie American Sniper because 200 students called for its cancellation because it made them feel uncomfortable and unsafe.

How are these brilliant minds that go to U of M ever going to make it in the really world if a movie will make them feel uncomfortable and unsafe on an extremely liberal campus?

Wait until the get into the really world.

This group of students also call the American hero Chris Kyle a racist and a mass murderer.  Really a mass murderer, someone who prevented others from being murdered by savages is a mass murderer?

When police shoot someone who is about to shoot you or someone you know are they a murderer?

This all started when a sophomore organized a petition asking CCI to cancel the screening. “As a student who identifies as an Arab and Middle Eastern student, I feel that ‘American Sniper’ condones a lot of anti-Middle Eastern and North African propaganda,” the student told campus newspaper The Michigan Daily.

Good news is that there appears to be tolerant students at U of M.  A group of students involved in the campus chapter of a conservative organization called Young Americans for Freedom, started a petition asking U of M’s Center for Campus Involvement to show the movie American Sniper, their petition states “The movie ‘American Sniper’ is not about a racist mass murderer or a criminal, It is about a decorated American war hero who served his country valiantly.”

The Young Americans for Freedom petition also states that by not showing the movie, the University is promoting intolerance and does not create an environment where dialogue and debate are possible.  I would have to agree with them on this one.

The Young Americans for Freedom petition went on to state “As adults at a public university, we should have the option to view this movie if we so choose and have the opportunity to engage on the topics it presents to come to our own conclusions on the subjects. Students should be trusted to interact responsibly on a movie no different than any other film depicting the lives of the troops at war, such as Saving Private Ryan.”

Now this gets even weirder, instead of showing the film “American Sniper,” The Center for Campus Involvement will instead show “Paddington Bear” at their event Friday, which is part of a program dedicated to providing students with alcohol-free Friday nights.

Paddington Bear is a PG rated movie about a young Peruvian bear who travels to London in search of a home. Finding himself lost and alone at Paddington Station, he meets the kindly Brown family, who offer him a temporary haven.

Is this an instance of intolerance by U of M?

Was Chris Kyle a “mass murderer”?

What is going on at the campuses of our Universities and Colleges?

Update: As of late yesterday U of M has reversed it's decision to not show the movie American Sniper according to The Michigan Daily.
