The Detroit Tigers (1-0) opened up Comerica Park this afternoon with a dramatic 4-3 victory over the Kansas City Royals (0-1) this afternoon.

Victor Martinez started the season with a second inning solo home run off of Royals starter James Shields. Kansas City responded with 3 runs in the 4th, before Tigers SS Alex Gonzalez made up for a 4th inning error with a game-tying, 2 run triple in the 7th.

Gonzalez also had the game winning, walk-off RBI to win it in the 9th. Joe Nathan (1-0) got the victory for the Tigers. Justin Verlander (0-0) got a no-decision, going 6 innings, giving up 6 hits, 2 earned runs, 3 walks and 2 strikeouts.

The Tigers are back in action Wednesday against the Royals. Coverage begins at 12:40pm on Lansing's Big Talker 1240 WJIM.
