The Lansing State Journal is reporting that 800 local workers will lose their jobs as General Motors will scale back production at its Lansing Grand River assembly plant. GM will cut the third shift at the plant in January.

GM officials cite a lack of demand for the models produced at LGR. The plant produces Chevrolet Camaros, Cadillac ATS, and Cadillac CTS models. According to the story in LSJ, sales for the Camaro are down 9% between January and October of this year. ATS sales are down 17.1%; CTS is down 16.7%.

Layoffs will affect 29 salaried workers and 810 hourly workers.
