State Lawmaker Wants to Keep Pledge As-Is
Some say the words “Under God” should not be a part of the Pledge of Allegiance. They say it runs contrary to the First Amendment by supporting religion. However, State Senator Rick Jones argues those words–quote–“gave our nation strength to persevere and are the threads that hold us together.” He says they should be “safeguarded in the pledge as a testament to the founding ideals that led America to prosperity”. That’s why he says he’s backing a proposed Michigan legislative resolution calling on Congress to keep those two words–“Under God”–in the pledge forever.
