State House Lawmakers Scrap Toll Roads Proposal
State lawmakers are making headway on plans that would make available an additional $500 million to help get Michigan's roads repaired. House committees have completed their work. That means in the days ahead the full house will take a vote.
The final version makes no mention of toll roads. There had been discussion of setting these up across the state as a revenue source. However there was not enough support among lawmakers to get this option approved.
Much of the funding would come from an increase in sales and use taxes. This would include a hike in permit fees for larger trucks.
