State lawmakers are reviewing legislation that would allow police to determine if someone is driving erratically because of marijuana use. The proposal would clear the way for officers to be able to use a new saliva test. It's designed to determine the level of THC in a person's system. THC is also known as Tetrahydrocannabinol. That's the active ingredient in the drug.

Backers say with additional towns and cities voting to possibly decriminalize marijuana use along with so many more in the state using marijuana for medical reasons, testing should be pursued to help assure safety on Michigan's roads.

Critics contend however the actual saliva test itself is not accurate and should not be allowed.
