The Michigan Senate just passed a package of bills that will increase the speed limits on 600 miles of rural freeways from 70 miles per hour to 75 miles per hour, this will occur in the next year. The package of bills will also increase the speed limits on 900 miles of state trunk line highways from 55 to 65 miles per hour.

The bill passed in a 28-8 vote.

In reading the legislation, it states that it would only allow speed increases on Michigan highways where the Michigan Department of Transportation and the Michigan State Police could conduct traffic safety and engineering studies and then conclude that at least 85% of motorists are already driving at those speeds.

Let’s talk about this tomorrow (Thursday) on The Live with Renk Show which airs Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to noon. To let me know your thoughts during the show please call (269) 441-9595.
