There have been problems at a BP refinery in Indiana and as a result oil ended up leaking into Lake Michigan. Officials are saying the oil spread about 5,000 square feet from the BP facility. It's also being reported some tarballs had collected near the shoreline. It appears the leak originated from a crude oil distillation unit that was not working correctly.

To get the oil contained crews are using vacuum trucks and skimmers.

Officials say the spill is not considered severe and it appears it has not impact drinking water supplies. The Coast Guard and the E.P.A. are among those investigating.BP is the former British Petroleum and was founded in 1909. The company has its headquarters in London and produces motor fuels, petroleum, aviation fuels, petrochemicals and natural gas.
