National Historic Registry Adds Legendary Detroit Venue

After a decade of working to get it added, the legendary Grande Ballroom in Detroit has been added to the National Historic Registry of Historic Places.

According to the Detroit Free Press, after years of going through the process  the old rock venue is now on the registry.

The Grande Ballroom, which is located on Grand River Avenue in Detroit, was a legendary rock venue during the '60's and '70's.

It featured many legendary rockers of the time.  Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and The Who all played there.  The Stooges and Alice Cooper were also regulars at the Grande Ballroom.

The venue was the site where the MC5 recorded their debut album, "Kick Out The Jams".  A new mural was recently painted on the building to pay homage to the band.

The building has been declining since the '80's and needs repair.  It is now owned by Chapel Hill and there is hope that the building can once again be major property in the area.
