A new survey from RealtyTrac found that banks seized just over 30,000 homes in January of 2014.  That's a 4 % drop from the previous month.

Completed foreclosures were down 40 % from the year before.

The news is not all good, though.  The foreclosure listing firm also says there have been spikes in many states in the number of homes entering the foreclosure process.  That surge, in an estimated 22 states, likely will hit later this year.
