Yes, can you believe it?  Our bases are “gun free zones” thanks to President Bush (the elder) and Clinton.

The question of why military members aren’t armed on base and who initiated it was explored in an article in the Blaze back in 2013.

It appears this “gun-free zone” type policy can actually be traced back to Department of Defense (DoD) Directive 5210.56, signed into effect in February 1992 by Donald J. Atwood, deputy secretary of defense under President George H.W. Bush.

A policy implemented in 1993 that changed policy regarding carrying firearms on the Army’s military bases appear to cast blame on President Clinton, however, that policy specifically notes part of its purpose is aimed at implementing “applicable portions of Department of Defense Directive 5210.56,” which, as previously stated, was put into effect by Bush Sr.’s deputy secretary of defense.

One news organization that discusses the 1993 policy change was the Washington Times.

According to a Washington Times Editorial our soldiers were able to carry loaded weapons until President Clinton came into office.

According to the Times editorial article one of President Clinton’s “first acts upon taking office… was to disarm U.S. soldiers on military bases.”

Apparently President Clinton’s orders produced Army regulations “forbidding military personnel from carrying their personal firearms and making it almost impossible for commanders to issue firearms to soldiers in the U.S. for personal protection.”

What does that mean? Well, it means men and women who join the military to use weapons, i.e. guns, to defend us and freedom around the world cannot exercise their constitutional right to “keep and bear arms” at home.

Interesting, is it not?

As the Washington Times editorial board wrote, “Because of Mr. Clinton, terrorists would face more return fire if they attacked a Texas Wal-Mart than the gunman faced at Fort Hood.”

Why did President Bush Sr and Clinton disarm our military at home?

Do you think it is a great idea to have our military bases, here at home, designated gun free zones?

Could the marines who were killed today in Tennessee have defended themselves?

Should President Obama immediately order our soldiers to carry loaded weapons on their home bases?

Let’s discuss this tomorrow (Friday) on my show The Live with Renk show, which airs Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to noon, to let me know your thoughts at (269) 441-9595.
