Right now a new high school student exam is being field tested nationwide and nearly 100.000 Michigan students are taking part. This test is being taken entirely with computers. It's designed to replace the hand written testing methods that had been used for years.

The Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium has produced it and the objective is to have it available statewide starting early next year. However some state lawmakers are concerned some schools may not have everything technically in place in time.

Critics of this new system question the cost. Those who support it say with computers so much a part of every day life this new testing system should be pursued.
