Michigan State Basketball Getting Hot-N-Ready for Doubleheader in Detroit
In a joint announcement Tuesday between college basketball head coaches from across the state and Olympia Entertainment executives, news broke that there will be a college basketball doubleheader played in Detroit in Mid-December this year.
Michigan State will play Oakland and Michigan will play Detroit-Mercy in back-to-back games at the
Michigan Taxpayer Center Little Caesars Arena on December 16.
There’s some Crazy Bread to be made for all schools involved off of a gate to a stadium that can hold an estimated 21,000 people for basketball.
Michigan State continues its series with Oakland University, where the all-time standings are Deep Deep-ly one sided. The Spartans are 15-0 against Oakland over the years.
Their last meeting on a neutral floor was a thrilling 99-93 win in overtime at the Palace of Auburn Hills. The Spartans got Crazy Wing play from Eron Harris, who dominated late in the game and scored 27 points, and Bryn Forbes, who led the Spartans with 33 that day.
Also with the announcement, Michigan revives their series with Detroit-Mercy. The two haven’t met since 2014 and have only played twice since 2009.
Officials at the press conference said the event would be a one ticket for two games deal. There is no agreement past 2017 but they expressed hope that the event grows to become an annual occurrence.
