As state lawmakers look for additional ways to generate much needed money to get Michigan's many roads fixed a number of options are being discussed. One that's getting plenty of attention: a plan that would allow for toll roads.

One proposal would clear the way for the state to team up with private companies. Those companies would build and maintain the actual toll booth facilities.

Supporters note many states have them and they do bring in plenty of extra money. However there are those in Michigan's travel and tourism industry who contend not having toll roads really sets Michigan apart from those that do. They argue with toll roads in place that could prompt quite a few to not take as many longer trips. They say that in turn would have a negative impact on the state's travel and tourism business..
