Michigan Democrats and Republicans Can Work Together
It might be something that is trivial in the grand scheme but Michigan Democrats and Republicans prove they can work together.
About 7 years ago the Federal government decided that gifts cards should have an expiration date of nothing shorter than 5 years. So the decided to put a new requirement via the Federal Trade Commission stating that the gift cards must not have an expiration date shorter than 5 years from the purchase date.
Well along came some Michigan Legislators who decided that the minimum 5 year expiration date is not long enough. Michigan State Representatives Abdullah Hammoud, D-Dearborn and Rep. Robert Wittenberg, D-Oak Park, introduced House Bills 4193 and 4914.
House Bills 4193 and 4194 would eliminate all together the expiration date on gift cards sold in Michigan.
In a press release State Representative Wittenberg stated:
This type of consumer protection legislation is a no-brainer for me. I believe when customers pay hard-earned money for gift cards, for friends or relatives, they should then be able to redeem those gifts without expiration.
The point of this article is that the bills do have Republican co-sponsors and support.
Well we have to start somewhere and these bills are as good as any others.
