Michigan Can’t Drive 55

It seems that putting the pedal to the metal will become a little more forgiving very soon in Michigan. The State Senate passed a bill recently by a 28-8 margin that will jump the top speed to 75 miles per hour on about 600 miles of rural interstate.

Many of those new opportunities to drive fast will be coming soon.

Another 900 or so miles roads will see speed increases to 65 miles per hour from the current posted limit of 55. Cue the Sammy Hagar records and let those horses run!

As you can imagine though there are plenty of critics to the increase as well. The majority of the opposition focuses on a potential increase in accidents and therefore serious injuries and fatalities. Steven Gursten an attorney who runs Michigan Auto Law says in an age with cell phones and other distractions it is irresponsible to increase highway speeds.

Governor Snyder is expected to sign the bill that is part of a bigger five bill package.
