The Pure Michigan 2014 summer regional advertising campaign starts on Monday on new data just released showing leisure travel spending in the state reached record levels last year: $13.8 billion. Overall visitor spending hit $18.7 billion.

Getting a lot of the credit for the terrific showing are the award winning Pure Michigan commercials.

Officials say the summer campaign is a key component of an effort to attract new and repeat out of state travelers to Michigan. This year 36 private sector partners are participating.
