As a woman, would you want to find a man in your local gym's locker room?

Well, that happened to Yvette Cormier at a Planet Fitness in Midland, Mich., according to the TV station WNEM.

One more thing you should know: when Cormier complained to management, Cormier's membership was revoked.

Oh, by the way, the man self-identifies as a woman.

Does knowing that he/she self-identifies as a woman make a difference to you?

According to WNEM, Cormier said she was getting undressed when the man walked into the women's locker room.

"I was stunned and shocked," Cormier role WNEM. "He looked like a man. He did not look like a woman.”

Not sure why this man was in the women's locker room, Cormier immediately "complained" to the front desk and eventually to corporate offices, WNEM reported.

"They told me the same thing, that he was allowed in there because that's the sex he wants to be,” Cormier told WNEM.

Cormier lost her membership for violating the company's "no judgment zone" policy.

So, she cannot be judgmental, but Planet Fitness can judge her.

Interesting!

Representatives with Planet Fitness issued this statement to WNEM:

"Planet Fitness is committed to creating a non-intimidating, welcoming environment for our members. Our gender identity non-discrimination policy states that members and guests may use all gym facilities based on their sincere self-reported gender identity.

In expressing her concerns about the policy, the member in question exhibited behavior that club management deemed inappropriate and disruptive to other members, which is a violation of the membership agreement and as a result her membership was canceled"

Char Davenport is a professor at Saginaw Valley State University as well as Delta College and spoke to WNEM concerning this issue. She's a prominent member of the transgender community. Davenport is also a transgender woman.

Davenport said she is not surprised by the female’s member reaction. At the same time, she said she applauds Planet Fitness for understanding the needs of the transgender community.

As a woman, would you join a gym knowing that they would allow men in your locker room as long as they “sincerely self-reported their gender identity?”

Was it right for Planet Fitness to revoke the female members’ membership because she complained?
