Mayor Bernero’s Final Budget Proposes Streets and Sidewalks Millage

Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero has waited a good chunk of his time at city hall waiting for enough state financial support to fix Lansing's crumbling roads and sidewalks. Frankly, so have Lansing residents, many of whom are not quiet about their impatience. Bernero will not seek re-election this year, but he thinks he has a plan to put in motion before he leaves office.

WLNS.com reports that Bernero's final proposed city budget that awaits Lansing City Council approval includes asking voters to approve a millage to fix the streets and sidewalks. The mayor estimates a needed $25 million to improve walkways and more than $200 million to get streets up to par.

If approved, taxpayer cost increases are reportedly an extra $50 per year for an owner of a $100,000 home.
