In Michigan you're about average if you earned about $39,000 dollars last year. In 2013 overall income in the state grew by about 2.5%.  So today when all states are tallied that puts us in 24th place. In 2012 the personal income growth rate number was closer to 3.5%.

Many in the state though are having a tougher time keeping pace with inflation. In addition the cost of things like gasoline and food and other commodities have been increasing at a rapid pace. So even though personal income experienced some growth, when higher cost of living expenses were factored in quite a few are ending up with fewer dollars once the bills were paid.
