The National Weather Service in Grand Rapids has issued warnings about the potential of wildfires in the region early this week.

Strong winds, low humidity, and warm temperatures around dry soil areas has created a potentially dangerous fire hazard in Mid-Michigan. Because of this, NWS has issued a Fire Weather Watch effective Monday until 8:00 PM. For Tuesday, a Red Flag Warning has been issued, effective 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM.

Both advisories warn residents to exercise extreme caution with anything capable of throwing a spark. This includes simple household items like outdoor grills, smoking items, and chainsaws, as well as motorbikes and all-terrain vehicles.

Open burning of any sort is not recommended by local officials as well. According to the Ingham County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management's Facebook page, there have already been a good number of brush fire calls today.
