Former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick wanted a transfer out of a Michigan prison to be closer to family and he got it.

The Detroit News is reporting he is now housed in a facility in Oklahoma.  His family currently lives in Texas.  Kilpatrick will be finishing out his 28 year prison sentence there.  He was sentenced last year for extortion, bribery, conspiracy and other crimes while in office.

Kilpatrick owes millions in restitution, including hundreds of thousands of dollars to the City of Detroit in connection with his plea deal on the text-messaging scandal.  He claims he has no money to make the payments.
