County road departments all over the state are facing this dilemma: with so much snow this winter plenty of money has been spent clearing streets and salting them. Covering the sizable budgets of winter maintenance projects has really taken its toll. When compared to last winter so far this winter some counties have spent nearly twice as much on things like supplies, gasoline and paying work crews for overtime hours. Officials say this is all money that could have ended up going to summertime road repair projects instead. They say in the months ahead they'll have a better idea by way of grand total how expensive this winter will have been.
